Girls on the Run Coach

Thank you for your interest in becoming a coach for Girls on the Run Birmingham. Girls on the Run strives to have consistent programming, providing the best possible experience for each girl. Our coaches are the most integral part of making that happen!

We ask that you truly consider the requirements listed below prior to making the commitment to be a coach for a team of young girls. After you have carefully considered the Coach Commitments listed below and are ready to make the commitment to be a coach for a team of young girls, please contact Girls on the Run Birmingham Program Director, Nicole Putman to request a Coach Application.  Nicole can be reached at 256-338-9065 or [email protected] 

Coach Commitments:

As a Girls on the Run Coach, I will:

  • understand and believe in the mission of Girls on the Run
  • serve as a role model and mentor 

  • attend Coaches Training, a pre-season Coach to Coach Meeting and First Aid/CPR Training (if necessary) prior to the start of the season
  • meet with the girls 2 times per week for 1.5 hours
  • prepare, organize, and supervise lessons using the Girls on the Run curriculum 

  • with the other coaches, lead the program participants through each lesson encouraging and motivating participants as they play games and run

  • attend the End of Season 5K with program participants 


To be a Girls on the Run coach I will need to:

  • be at least 18 years old*
  • successfully pass a Background Check 

  • be First Aid/CPR certified (if necessary, at least one coach per team must be CPR/First Aid certified) 

*if you are under 18 years old and interested in being a Junior Coach, let us know!
